Hard. Very hard. Similar selectivity to what you'd find at Cornell or Vanderbilt. Acceptance rates for OOS students have been consistently in the high 20s for many years. That will go down further next year as U Virginia will begin accepting the Common Application.

Compare with Cornell or Northwestern and some "lower" (I hate that phrase) Ivies. I have heard of a lot of UVA OOS students turning down some Ivy league schools (and other schools, like Northwestern) for UVA.

Here are the statistics for the class of 2012:

[quote]
Total number of applications: 18,531
Total number of VA apps: 7,355
Total number of OOS apps: 11,176

Overall offer rate: 35.7% (6,628 total offers)
Overall VA offer rate: 45.8% (3,372 offers)
Overall OOS offer rate: 29% (3,256 offers)
