Hey, I'm applying to most of the hades schools and I'm wondering how difficult it is to get recruited, I am fully aware that different sports vary in competition and I'm wondering how hard it is to get recruited for golf.

Bump for the win

They don’t do much or any reaching out and recruiting for golf. I worked with a student with a scratch handicap, who played and won international tournaments, had top grades and wanted to go to a prep school and then hopefully on to Stanford for golf. He met with coaches at hades schools and others, and was accepted at about half, rejected by half. So, not only did they not recruit him, his golf expertise didn’t help him at all the schools he applied to.

They do actively recruit at 8th grade elite level soccer games and ice hockey tournaments. I know two kids who were found that way.

What about cross country?

Are the HADES schools recruiting soccer, hockey (and other?) standouts based only on their athletic prowess and not requiring much from them in the way of academic/SSAT/etc achievement?

Sorry, double post.

Alright thanks everyone. But god, that really stinks, international player and good student got blatantly rejected, that freaks me out.

CCer…I would contact the coaches at the schools you are interested in and fill out a prospective athlete questionairre. It could be that golf is quite competitive at some of these schools and it would indeed be a plus for admission.

Mainer, I think that students do need to still be strong academically. The sport can be a strong hook, however, that might be a part of the total “package” (so one could score a bit lower).

My marks and the such are pretty high though so it’s not really a supporter it’s more of a booster if you know what I mean.

I know what you mean…

hey,

at big schools, dont count on being recruited…unless its for “big” sports…most kids that are recruited anyway are not too far off from the school (3hrs at most) and the coach knows the level of skill that the kid has because he is aware of the closer teams

its harder if you live a plane trip away because the coach is not familiar with the team or league you play for

Man, that sucks. I’m five or six hours away by car, and my school doesn’t even have a golf team.

If you are a strong track/cc runner and contact the coaches, someone might give you a tip with admissions. Usually the coach has to meet you first so try to visit the school.
