How hard is it to get the Jefferson Scholarship at UVA?

Can anyone who is a Jefferson scholar or was accepted or denied for it post stats? Thanks in advance

Crazy hard. Stats will only be a threshold for that scholarship - the winners will be decided by “soft” factors, leadership, community service, etc. Also note that you must be nominated by your high school.

It’s very competitive…hard to receive.

They only pick the best. Its very competitive.

thanks.
what would you guys say would be around the minimum SAT and uw GPA to have a good chance at this scholarship?

Nobody has a good chance at it. If you can get nominated by your high school and you have a “hook” then you can be in the running.

If you look at the website for the Jefferson Scholars Foundation (http://www.jeffersonscholars.org/), you can get some idea. The most recent information there tells you that 1600 kids were nominated, and 36 chosen; that works out to be about a 2% success rate IF YOU ARE NOMINATED. That’s a big “IF”.

I know that a local high school’s valedictorian received a Jefferson Scholarship for the Class of 2019. I think that he had a 4.85 GPA (weighted), a 36 ACT, and a 2350 SAT.

Thank you everyone

1600+ nominations nationwide - as a general rule, participating schools can nominate one candidate, but not every school nominates someone every year.
~120 finalists.
For the most recent year they list, 34 were selected.

So if you’re good enough to get your school’s nomination in the first place, it’s only about a 2% chance of actually being selected as a Jefferson Scholar.

Thanks everyone. I decided not to even apply to the school anyway
