Hey everyone, so I’m going to WashU next year and want to Join a Frat. I know that it is much easier to join greek life for girls because they take more people, but I was wondering how hard it is to join frats. I plan on being a social guy and am willing to commit to the frat, but how likely is it that I would even get a bid?
Bump. Could really use some help on understanding the Greek rushing for guys.
Why? 2 frats at WashU got suspended. One permanently with the guy with an AR-15 and a pistol in possession. And the other one with possible violations involving underaged drinking.
Take care of your academic business before worrying about rushing.
If the brothers like you, you’re in. If not, then you’re not. → If you’re likable, it’s easy. If you’re not, its hard. The point of frats is that they are social organizations. It’s not like applying to college where there are only a select number of seats.
Thanks @Kiriel I consider myself a likable social kid. And would love to get involved.

Our research indicates that only about 50% of the boys who rush get into a fraternity at WashU. It helps tremendously to have an older sibling or high school connection; If you don’t have one of those resources you need to spend time in the Fall getting to know the guys in the fraternities you are interested in joining (but that is no guarantee that you’ll get in). It seems to be much more difficult to get in a frat than at most schools. If going to parties is important to you, you probably need to join a fraternity, otherwise, you can focus on school work, volunteering, etc.
Is it difficult to meet frat brothers in the fall? Also where would one go to make friends with them?
It’s very hard to join a frat and its all about who you know. A lot is knowing them from before coming to college meeting through clubs, classes, etc. Sometimes if they like you, they will invite you to meet their brothers.
It’s hard to get a bid bc you have to get to know most if not all of the brothers and they need to like you. Everyone votes yes or no on you and if u don’t reach a certain % then you don’t get a bid. It’s a lot easier if you know some brothers before rush, but its also not entirely impossible to get a bid after starting out not knowing anyone- you really just gotta be the type of person to put yourself out there
