I only know about 1/3 of the stuff on the test. Should I register for the Jan test? Will I be able to self-study all the material?

No... I learned even less than that in my 1.5 years of taking physics. I got a PR book in June but didn't actually start reading it until October. A few weeks is NOT enough time to master a subject which you basically learned nothing about. I have never even heard of most the topics and I'm in AP right now.

give it a try!
I only took physics for like 8 months and we didn't even cover 60% of the stuff on the SAT. Well when I finally decided to take the SAT I had about 14 days left. I got 520 and 600 in PR and Kaplan practice tests respectively. After a few days of fanatical&arduous studying, I started to get like 700 on the practice tests. The day before the SAT, I got 740 and was relieved.

The test was fairly easy. Use PR and KAplan along with Sparknotes

Guess what I got :P

800!!!! still can't believe how that happened..

If you like it, go for it ^^ I had 6 weeks of Intro Physics over the summer (really really basic... never learned Power, Torque, absolutely no magnetism or modern physics, a bunch of electricity, etc etc)...

Then, the night before the SAT (November), I realized that not only had I not learned a lot of the material, but I also forgot a LOT of the stuff I did learn. I was like, "Hm.... I'm probably screwed," so I picked up a random old prep book at a used book store and looked up Physics on Sparknotes and read them for a few hours. I scored 760 ^^ If you like the subject, you're bound to learn quickly.
