I was accepted into CAS for economics, but am wondering how hard it is to transfer into Whitman or Newhouse once accepted. Is that possible?

Don’t hold me to this, but I have a friend who got into VPA and is transferring into New House next year. According to him transfer in between schools is relatively easy as long as your GPA is acceptable (for New house it has to be 3.5)…
If I go I will transfer into new house my sophomore year.

switching between schools is exceptionally easy. they literally only care about your GPA. take easy classes first semester and you’re set.

I was looking at the requirements for Newhouse vs. VPA, as I got in for Art Photography but would like to transfer into photojournalism. The course catalogue says that most all the credits must be “Newhouse” credits, would transferring still be possible?

Transferring into Newhouse is dependent on your GPA - so the key is easy classes first year. But they only take a limited number of students which varies each year depending on openings. Last year, SU admitted too many students (students were using the Syracuse Sheraton as dorms and most floor lounges were turned into student dorm rooms). I assume that they will be more careful this year, but it’s hard to determine the effect of this on inter school transfers. My D who is a junior in Newhouse knows many people who transferred in after their freshman year.

Unsureastowhere… a BFA has different first year core requirements than a BA, so you may be a little behind in the core classes if you get to transfer. Newhouse requires math, science, language, etc, plus a comm course. Whereas i think you will be taking several art courses your first year, with room for only a couple of academic electives. Are you brining many credits from high school? That would help if so. Talk to a dept rep and get their advice. Good luck! Both programs sound amazing!

It’s not all about GPA…different departments have different requirements. Here is Syracuse’s posted rules: [Intra-university transfer requirements](http://www.syr.edu/currentstudents/studenthandbook/academic_info/intrauniversitytransfer.html)

How about transferring to CAS? I got into my second choice, VPA, which isn’t bad at all since I am very interested in art. However, I’m also very interested in psychology. I know you can take courses outside of your assigned college, so should it be worth it for me to ask for a transfer before the beginning of the year if possible?
