How Hard Is It To Switch Facultys In Engineering??? (only Current Students Answer)

Hi,

I was refused from chemical engineering faculty because of the limited space available, but the refused letter came with the option of applying to a couple different and still available engineering programs...

IF I DO TAKE A DIFFERENT PROGRAM (aka one offer is electrical and computer engineering) IS IT POSSIBLE TO SWITCH INTO CHEMICAL or MECHANICAL ENGINEERING IF I DO GO TO McGILL?

Yes. You should have no problem switching into either, assuming you do the course work diligently, and maintain a 3.0+ GPA.

(Don't take my word on the last part...it just feels right, though).

First year engineering is the science program + math 133. Maintain a 3.0-3.2 ad you should be fine. Just dont take any courses like comp 202, and any second year electrical courses, all they'll mess with your gpa.

Every single engineering course in the electrical/computer/programming field is exactly the same in the first year. I don't know the exact details but chem engineering should also be very similar in the beginning. All early classes will be similar so that the wide variety of students can be on the same page and assimilated into the program.

Transferring in the same department is very easy too so as long as you don't fail, you should be fine.

i'd maintain a 3.3 gpa and above to be on the safe side.

to 100% secure your transfer you might need 3.3 GPA but even 2.7 will do.

It is absolutely possible. You can even transfer between faculties.

1mike *** are you talking about???? First year engineering( all of them ), your taking courses with science students. You dont have to take any actual engineering courses unless you have the prequisites, wich can be done in specific cases. With ECSE you "have" to take 202 aswell. But if you want to switch out id advise against it as you have complete control over you schedule, and if you dont have programming background 202 is a pain. Maintaining a 3.0 will most deginately be satisfactory for everything but mech, id imagine the the real cutoff for mech is like 3.1 -3.2.
