How hard is it to transfer for computer science?

I'm currently a UCR student. I was looking through the UCSB transfer thread, and it seems like most people that were rejected were applying for computer science (some dude with all prereqs done and a 3.5 gpa got rejected). However, this was a pretty limited sample, so I'm wondering if any if you guys know for sure. How hard is it to transfer to UCSB for computer science? Would I have a good chance if I had a very good GPA (>3.8) but a few prereqs not completed (UCR's classes don't match up perfectly with UCSB's)?

You should look at the UC Statfinder: [University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/statfinder/default.aspx)

I ran a chart here (printer version, may not work: [University of California: StatFinder](http://statfinder.ucop.edu/statfinder/printerfriendlyreport.aspx?sessionid=a308e125-eaf8-4f34-82ac-36400e55e80a&seqid=1) ) and it looks like most UC-to-UC transfers last year with a GPA of over 3.2 had a pretty good shot.

EDIT: Then again, I believe UCSB is over-enrolled for Fall 2009, so I don’t know what kind of an effect that will have on UC transfer admissions.

Wow good information, thanks for that. I actually would be applying for next year, Fall 2010

The only problem is that that data only factors into account GPA, while I think prereqs play a pretty large role in computer science admissions

Well I applied and was rejected. 3.5 GPA…all prerequisites except for 1…transferring from a community college. I got into UCSD and UCI which are MUCH better schools for Computer Science. It kinda puzzled me why I didn’t get in. Made no sense what so ever.

It also depends on which school you’re applying to. Computer Science majors in College of Creative Studies and College of Engineering are much harder to get into than College of Letters & Sciences.

Thats true. I don’t know who would want to get a BA in Computer Science…most employers would laugh at you.

Wow Striff, I’m surprised to hear that. It’s great that you got into UCI and UCSD though. Sheesh, that’s pretty scary that you got rejected from UCSB (for me at least, because that’s definitely my top choice for transfer and I doubt I’ll even have all my prereqs done)
