How hard is it to transfer from UCD to UCLA for Physics?

I'm currently a freshman in UCD and I just completed my fall quarter with a 3.7 GPA. However, I only took easy courses this quarter so that GPA isn't very important. I'm also currently thinking about applying for the Physics or Astrophysics major at UCLA.

To transfer into UCLA, do I have to complete all my GE's first AND my major prerequisites or just my major prerequisites? What should my GPA be in order to have at least decent chance at getting accepted into UCLA? I heard I should have a 3.8, but I find that impossible to achieve when I start taking advanced math and physics classes.

Are there any other important things I should know before I apply?

Honestly, Physics isn’t that competitive (not the same as saying it isn’t difficult though). You should be able to get in with no problems given that you finish most of the prerequisites and maintain a 3.5+ GPA. You do not have to complete your GE’s to transfer, but I highly recommend that you do if you are sure you will transfer to UCLA. It can mess you up once you actually enroll at UCLA.

How will not completing my GEs mess me up? Will I not graduate on time? And do I have to complete the GEs for UC Davis or UCLA?

In the worst case scenario, your GEs might not match UCLA’s at all and you’ll have to complete a whole new set of GE’s at UCLA. In the best case scenario, there’s a lot of overlap and you just have to make up one or two classes. So yes, there’s a possibility that you won’t graduate in the time frame you want (assuming that is two years) without some summer school. If you finish your UCD GE’s before you attend UCLA, then you don’t have to do any more GE’s.
