How hard is it to transfer out of engineering?

Part of the decision process for me is finding a place where if I am unhappy with engineering I will be able to switch into my other major interest, Biology, which is in the "main" college, not in the college of engineering. I got into the mech engineering at UC Berkeley, but I don't know the process or how difficult it is to switch into biology if I don't like engineering. I'd like to know before I accept and end up stuck. If anyone has any info for the same thing at UCLA, U of Washington, U of Michigan--please enlighten me. Thanks!

Ask the admissions office how easy it is to transfer from engineering to biology (assuming good academic standing).

I’m not sure of the specifics of how it works at the schools you mentioned, but I think usually it’s not too hard to transfer OUT of engineering. I know at some schools, up to 50% of people that start in engineering eventually transfer out (out of engineering, not necessarily out of the university).
