Okay so I have always wanted to go to NYU, but it is pretty competitive and hard for anyone to get in. So I have decided to apply ED to Steinhardt and then say oops and transfer before the first semester starts in CAS because I know Steinhardt is easier to get into then CAS. Will this work? How long does it take to transfer into CAS? Does the school I apply to matter if it is not Stern or Tisch? I know that every student that goes to NYU has to take MAP courses their first two years anyway so it doesn't matter which school you get into.

the CAS admissions committee will still review the same records you apply for Steinhardt. i am not sure if you can internally transfer before the first Fall/Spring semester starts in CAS but if so the admissions committee will use the same material you apply for Steinhardt for as there won’t be any NYU grades. i do think that NYU students do get priority though.

i think you’d have to stay in Steinhardt for one academic year before you can apply to transfer.

you can always anonymously call the office of undergrad admissions and ask. i know someone who went from SCPS sports management to CAS, but they stayed in SCPS for a year.

Yeah, and since it is easier to get into Steinhardt I will probably ED there and then transfer into CAS after a year since everyone at NYU takes the same courses as one another.

I’m not exactly sure if Steinhardt is ‘easier’ to get into than CAS. I feel like CAS might actually be easier just because it is the college of arts and sciences, mostly full of kids who are undecided. But yeah, you can’t internally transfer before your freshman year. You would have to apply during the freshman year and hope for the best for sophomore year.

jwarder3001, it’s been the trend that the admission standards for non-portfolio majors at Steinhardt are easier than applying to CAS undecided. Come to think of it I don’t even know if prospective major plays a huge role, I’ve met people who applied undecided or intended and got in with a range of strengths/weaknesses.

Yeah, I see. Thanks

The acceptance rate is nearly the same as CAS. just 1% more!

Still 1% means quite a bit.
But I’m pretty sure you need to stay one academic year in Steinhardt before you can internally transfer.

Yeah, I am applying CAS lol
