Hi some of you may have seen a thread by me complaining that I got waitlisted.

Lehigh is stillll and always will be my top choice shool =[

If I don't get off the waitlist I am going to try to transfer after the first semester.

What does lehigh look for in transfer students?

what average college gpa..college activities..etc

My choices are between rutgers new brunswick and northeastern. I got 10k scholarship from northeastern. which one should i attend for a semester. i want to go to rutgers cause its cheaper but worry if i get waitlisted/rejected from lehigh again.

I was accepted on saturday and i had no college activites, but i had a RIDICULOUS amount of activites in high school. i had a 3.2 gpa for the first semester but in 4 out of 5 of my classes i got A’s or B+'s so econ brought me down haha but the second semester as of midterms i had a 3.6 so that probably helped! they also look at your high school gpa and activities as well, so if you want to transfer work your butt off first semester to do as well as possible!

oh and when i was applying my mom called to ask them what gpa they’re looking for and they said around a 3.2. This year they had about 400-500 students applied and about 100 were admitted and about 60 will attend in the fall! hope this helps!

so if I have 1 years worth of univ credit and a 3.9 gpa and a bunch of overseas experiences and college activities, yet my high school grades sucked (C’s though several B’s and some A’s) due to several personal issues, do you think the high school grades will weight heavily against me? What was your overall college gpa?

In my opinion, applying as a transfer student to Lehigh was more difficult than when my son applied early decision. My son is a sophomore at one of the top private Liberal Arts colleges: Franklin and Marshall in Lancaster, PA. He is carrying a 3.48 Chemistry Major with Pre-Med concentration. He decided that he missed math and wants to change to engineering so he sent an email to the associate chair of the department he is interested in and scheduled a meeting to make sure this is where he wanted to be before taking the plunge. I am not sure what all was required but I do believe it was 2 or 3 essays and a recommendation letter from a professor. They also asked for high school transcripts. Applying for Financial Aid has been a nightmare for this mom. My last colonoscopy was less invasive! I know my son reads these forums but is not a member. I am sure if he has anything to add he will email me to add on his behalf.

Jassizzle- My heart aches for you. My only advice to you is to keep in close contact with the admissions office. Make it known that Lehigh IS your top choice and if offered admission you will be there Fall 2009! On another note… I am a firm believer that if it is meant to be, it will be. If not, I am sure you will be successful wherever you attend. Don’t spend all your time at your new college worrying about getting into Lehigh!

Jassizzle, don’t take the hard-and-fast approach to GPA. AS Jedimasterham’s case shows, getting accepted is more complicated than that. Lehigh will look at the difficulty and reputation of your current college, the difficulty of your course work, and your grades. Since recommendations probably play a crucial role, get to know your professors wherever you go.

Every year Lehigh accepts a healthy number (don’t know what it is, though) of transfer students, but I’ve known many with great grades who have been rejected. As with freshman admissions, far too many students apply for the number of spots, so many qualified students get denied, not because they aren’t good enough, but because admissions is forced to make tough decisions. Make your application as compelling as possible – and that includes getting strong grades your first two semesters, something that is easier said than done.

In the meantime, choose the university – Northeastern or Rutgers – where you’d be the most comfortable, and get excited about it.

I know a lot of people post asking how good are the chance if they have bad HS transcript, but good gpa in College. What about the opposite my HS transcript is pretty good about 3.7/4.0 and bunch of activities, but very very poor first semester because of issues of college and major. I am also transferring from U of Michigan does that mean anything?

i just got accepted to Lehigh last week as a transfer student from FDU in NJ. Lehigh is a pretty competitive school, but do not only look for good grades - they want a well-balanced student. i had a 3.8 GPA in high school with several activities, 1 sport, and volunteering experience; my SAT scores were not great - 1730, which is fairly average. so, its definitely not just about SAT scores. in my freshman year of college, i have a 3.9 GPA, and did a full year internship. i hope this was helpful!
