how hard is it to transfer WITHIN Cornell?

for ex., to Hotel school from CAS or ILR?

is it easier to transfer within the school than to transfer from somewhere else? (spring)

im also interested in knowing, like from CAS to hotel.

i would assume its easier to transfer specifically from CAS to the Hotel school, simply because CAS is more selective. although, if you've done nothing that relates to hotel administration/hospitality service..it won't be very easy.

hotel is hard to transfer into from another school, whether internal or external. and on the contrary, CAS is not as selective as hotel. everyone says that the hotel adm major is a joke, but its really one of the most robust and versatile majors available at cornell, and one of the best departments in the world.

however, the good thing is that these two are private schools, which means the ITD option is available to you. ITD transfers are much easier than direct transfers.

ITD? what is that

Internal transfers are easy. Cornell actually has a great way of handling them. Some colleges have requirements for internal transfers to fulfill pre-transfer (ex. Engineering requires math 191 and 192, among other courses, for internal transfer), and all require a certain GPA. If you've already fulfilled the requirements (or if the college doesn't have any requirements- I believe CALS doesn't, ILR might- check this out) and have a high enough GPA (the GPA requirement is pretty lenient), then you can transfer immediately. If, for example, you want to transfer from Arts to Engineering, and you either haven't fulfilled the requirements or have too low a GPA, you can enter something called the Internal Transfer Division (ITD). You remain in your former college while also working "within" the ITD (usually with some sort of advisor) until you've pulled up your GPA and/or fulfilled the requirements. It's a great program. You stay in the ITD until you transfer, and the ITD really helps you out; internal transfers are ALWAYS possible. In your case, it's probably gonna be really easy.

thanks sooo much lianri for telling me that :)

yeah that was really helpful info, thanks lian! :)

umm to transfer to the hotel school, try to apply for a job at the statler and work yourself in. That way you'll have hospitality experiences, the pay isnt htat bad either.
