How hard is OOS really?

I'd really love to go to UNC...but it seems like if your not a recruited athelte or legacy, you have no chance!!

So is it really that hard?
Anyone here get in OOS? Stats?
What's harder: UVA or UNC OOS?

Thanks!!

UNC- 18% OOS
UVA- 36% OOS

but i think they're about equal.

is that sarcastic? you mean their equal in difficulty? idk...internet sarcasm never comes across.

Stats (everything through junior year)

GPA-5.19/6.0 (translates to 3.77 UW/4.64 W)
Rank-10/830 (class size actually much larger, but poor school means lots of dropouts; also we received about 100-200 New Orleans students)
SAT-740 V, 800 M, 740 W
AP's-5 World History (self studied,) 5 Human Geography (self studied,) 5 English Language, 4 U.S. History, 4 Calculus BC, 4 English Literature
Five EC's with significant leadership or state level ability
Good Essays/Recs

Also, from what I understand, being a legacy is not that big of an advantage.

joeman, were you accepted OOS?

no, really. they're about equal in difficulty. one of my friends got into UNC OOS but rejected from UVa when his dad was a resident there, so he technically was too. it was weird.

Stats for OOS admit:

White male
Noncompetitive high school
GPA: 4.56/4.33 weighted, school doesn't give unweighted
Class rank: 2
SAT- V 800, M 780, W 800
SAT II - US History 780, Physics 770, Math IIc 750
ACT- Composite 35, Eng 34, Mat 35, Sci 35, Read 36
IB - 35, SLMath 6, SLHistory 6, HLFrench 4, HLChemistry 5, HLBiology 6, HLEnglish 6, 2 bonus point (A in TOK, C in EE)
AP - CalcAB 5, Bio 5, English (can't remember: language or literature?) 5, Physics B 4, Chem 4, French 2
EC's- some medical volunteering, CAS for IB program, two years varsity sports (freshman and sophomore). No leadership or high competition. Bad EC's in general.
Work experience- lifeguard, horseshoeing.
Don't remember essays, rec's were probably fairly good

Admitted EA, offered Johnston scholarship (demonstrated need covered with grants, special seminars, free study abroad, a few other perks)

Yes, I was admitted OOS during regular action.

I forgot to list a few things.
SAT II's: Math IIC-790, Biology E-660, U.S. History-670
Significant work experience in a technical job for one year, part time.

The average non-resident SAT was 1356 last year. If you exclude athletes, the average would likely be a bit higher.

Joeman, if you are a legacy I can see them accepting you.

...and even if joeman wasn't a legacy, im pretty damn sure he'd still get accepted. very nice stats, impressive.

Sorry, I didn't clarify in my original post that I was admitted already. I mentioned it a few posts up though.
