like everyone freaks out when the hear orgo
I want to know like really how hard is it?
like Ap physics C hard
or like Ap chem hard.
give me something i can prolly relate to as a HS senior.

lol its definitely harder than AP chem

Something to relate to as a senior in HS...

Orgo is like that subject which you think you know, but you actually don't. It taunts you, and makes you work hard to try and earn it's respect, but you never really get it.

It's AP Chem, Physics and Bio combined with AP Calc II

sure its hard, but if u spend time on it its really not that bad... especially if u had a teacher who spent a lot of time on the basics in ap. but if u dont spend time on it and figure out all the crap then ya it will be a *****

Is orgo the chemistry class you take if you get a 5 on your AP chem exam (210/211)?

^^^yup
orgo I and II

okay so i am in highschool w/ organic chemistry II and i have SENIORITIS! and this make orgo 2 REALLY SUUUUPPPER majorly hard! Buuuuuut organic is tedious and requires ALOT of your time. there is ALOT to remember, and i mean ALOT to remember and that is really what makes it hard. DOnt stress about it, just PLEASE dont take organic with a ton of other hard classes because you are setting yourself up for failure, esp if you are like me and have senioritis.

also orgo 2 is easier than orgo 1 because you are used to what orgo is like!
good luck!
also do the end of the problem questions like 50 times or more, no less. and know your reactions front and backwards. and I dont think organic chemistry compares to general chemistry. it is a whole different level, in my opinion...

taking orgo in high school is stupid, especially if you're taking it at a community college. That's a big no-no for med schools.

it is not stupid because i am repeating the course in college and it will be a repeat of info rather than seeing the info for the very first time. as will gen chem 1 & 2 be a repeat. dont hate...congratulate

Well you do realize that med schools will see that you took orgo twice, at the community college and at your 4-year university?

Sorry to pounce on you, its finals time and I'm stuck in the library on a friday night.

If you get "A"s in both the high school course and university it really wouldnt matter...

Why is organic chemistry so hard?

Imagine this

You have a test out of 140 points. 5 pages, each page is ooh..30 or so points. You have two boxes and some words on the first page.

Oh, that's 30 points?

well... shucks... you mean if I get this box wrong, I get the other three wrong too? Well... damn

It's hard because everything depends on each other. It's hard because if you mess up, even a bit, it can really screw you. It's hard because you can't memorize the subject, you actually have to understand and then apply it later on.

Don't think that taking Orgo in HS will mean an easy Orgo in college. I know lots of people that have been the exception.

Everything is relative. Yes, organic chemistry is harder than inorganic chemistry. It's not as difficult, however, as biochemistry, microbiology or physical chemistry. The key thing to understand is that you can't succeed at organic chemistry (or biochemistry, microbiology or physical chemistry, for that matter) by sheer memorization. You have to understand the mechanisms underlying the reactions and be able to apply them. In short, what counts is knowing the "whys" in addition to knowing the facts.

gbesq, that is true what you said & that is what makes it difficult.

Cvjn, by no means do i think that I will study less @ a university for organic, in fact harder. But it will be easier than for someone who is introduced to the material for the first time. & I appreciate being able to have been introduced and tested on the material previously than for the first time.

But I didnt know that Med schools want to see your high school transcript. I thought only SOME MIGHT ask to see it...

Barely any med schools will request to see your high school transcript, but you are required to submit transcripts from all colleges and community colleges you have taken classes at, regardless of when you took them.

my dad is an organic chemist. he decided to become one since he thought it was easy, while realizing it was absolute agonizing hell for others :P

Well good, I've seen a lot of people fall into the trap of, having taken it in HS, and just try and breeze along otherwise.

Yes, even Pre Medicine kids.

organic chemistry here is impossible. just dont take it if you can. or take it elsewhere
