How hard is Stanford?

How are the science classes compared to Duke or Rice?

How could anyone know the answer to this unless they had taken the same classes at Stanford, Duke, and Rice?

It depends what you take.

If you do the physics 60 series, it's very difficult. Doing the 40 series, or even the 20, and they're significantly easier.

Same goes for chem. You could take 31X or 31A and B (two quarters compared to one)--X moves at a much faster pace.

The bio core is legendary for being intensely competitive and difficult.

If you want to do the bio core, but must take physics (and would place into physics 45, I think) which physics series should you take?

Is the human biology major different from bio core? Waht science courses do most freshman take to be able to take MCAT in the junior year? Thanks

Most MCAT types will complete the bio core, the chem sequence (31X or A/B, 33, 35) and the physics 40 series.

Organic Chemistry is the traditional killer, weed out the pre-meds course at many schools.

How can there be weeder classes when you can drop the class as late as finals week? I thought the point of weeders was to flunk people out of certain majors, but anyone who thinks they have a serious chance of flunking can just drop the class the last week of school.

But you have to take organic chemistry and probably do relatively well to get into med school. It isn't necessarily a weeder in the sense that you fail the course, but a C- isn't going to help your med school application. All the pre-meds know this, so it is the class that is most difficult and competitive for that relatively large group of students. It also is a weeder in the sense that it is the last straw that turns a lot of pre-meds into something else.

Can you elaborate about the dropping of classes-is it really a week before finals. Do you get a W on your transcript?
