Is this class more difficult than, lets say, math 53 or 54?

Definitely not.

ok thanks, i’m taking it this fall along with econ 1. the average on courserank lists it as a B-, the same for 53 and 54, which are supposedly harder too. whats the deal?

i also read reviews that homework is easy, but when it comes time for midterms, the professors ask incredibly tricky and difficult questions? i’m taking it with professor adhikari if that matters.

I took both stat 21 and math 53 and I can tell you that stat 21 is a joke of a math class. I think the grading average may come from different pools of student. Stat 21 is generally intended for social science and biz majors, which don’t use rigorous math that often, so it is a B- class to them. People who take math 53 usually don’t take stat 21 and move straight into stat 134. And if they did take stat 21 it is probably not as hard as a B- class to them.

ok, cool thanks. i did well (B+) on both 1A and 1B, so hopefully this class will be easy for me. Thanks, yeah, just worried a bit (i know i shouldn’t be) since i’m doing econ lol.

stats 21 is easy. But make sure you do well on the quizzes. That’s what ****ed me over. God damn reading quizzes.

oh ok…what kind of stuff does the class teach you?

also, how is nutrisci 10 as a whole? is it really that easy?

they say nutrisci is easy.

and stat 21? it teaches you the introduction to statistics… ■■■■■. if you havent taken stats before, then obviously whatever we mention from the class will be gibberish to you. but the big hitters are standard deviations, normal curves, p values, probability, probability applied to statistics, some issues with measuring stats, a lot of different statistical tests for probability on populations, etc, etc, etc.

ok, yeah, i haven’t taken stats before…i would still be okay in this class right? i mean, since it is more intended for social science/business people. i’m decent-good in math, so i should be fine?

and i have heard those terms before…lol…how is professor adhikari though? her reviews were much better than muroli’s.

Just curious, where did you get that from? I’m wondering because everyone has signed up for Adhikari already, curious if it’s just a herd effect.

Their ratemyprofessor ratings are similar, although admittedly Adhikari has many more reviews. They both taught stats 2, so if you go on courserank people say that Murali Stoyanov is a great teacher. If you look at ninjacourse ratings, it looks like her ratings are skewed down because a few people rated her pretty low and gave no comment. The people who DID say stuff about her had good things to say. You’d think if they had legitimate grievances they would have made some comments… Looks like there’s some bias there

So, taking those select bad ratings with a grain of salt, Murali Stoyanov and Adhikari look pretty similar in terms of teaching ability and grading…

Just doing a bit of simple analysis on this (and I’m guessing we will have to learn to account for bias, outliers, etc in stats 21, right?) Curious on thoughts of anyone who took either professor.

Here’s some quotes that give me optimism for Stoyanov (there are very few bad comments, only a few bad ratings, but most are good ratings/comments):

i was looking at rate my professor. murali only had 2 reviews, adhikari had a ton more. where did you find those reviews for murali? and i guess it doesn’t matter, since on rate my prof, adhikari had similar reviews as well…augh, i’m going to hope for the best

I don’t think you need to worry about it if you’re comparing it to math 53 or 54. The class only uses basic math but applies it to the introductory statistics concepts, so compared to actual math classes, the math part of it is easy.
Tests are definitely trickier than the homework though!!

What you need to watch out for is slacking off too much because the material is so easy.
