Because I have a pretty crappy teacher or at least one who doesn't motivate/force the students to go in depth, but if I basically do a lot of prep-work a week or so before the test will I do well on the exam?

It is hard to tell, but I highly recommend that you know your course textbook really well, especially if your teacher is not so good. Know even the stuff that seems obsolete. You will need a lot of knowledge to complete some of the FRQs/DBQs.

Well I didn’t read a single page of my APUSH textbook (which we were supposed to do every night) or study at all before the test and I still got a 4 on it… My teacher was (I hate to say it) good though, and I think it would be extremely difficult for anyone else to not read the book and get a good score.

I found the multiple choice difficult, but the essays were easy. So I would say take practice tests, work on DBQs and FRQs (have someone grade them), and make sure you understand all tested concepts.

I got a 5 on it with a pretty crappy teacher. We reached the Civil War around February, and dashed up to the 70s the month before the exam. She always gave us take home exams. I didn’t learn anything, just used the interwebs.

Prep books are extremely valuable. In fact, I have pdf version of REA that I studied the day before the exam (it helped a lot).
