how hard is the chem test ??

The chem placement test, would it be around SAT II difficulty, or AP chemistry difficulty ??

I'm also wondering what's on it. Is it like basic chem or does it go into acids and bases and equilibrium?

somewhere in between (in response to the first q)

Lets put it this way. I hadn't taken chem since sophmore year of high school (took AP Physics B and C more my last 2 years) and i placed into orgo. Its sooooo much easier than SAT II and AP.

I took it for the "hmm...let's see what I can remember for the fun of it" value. And I amazed myself. If you've taken it in the last 4 years, don't worry. Although there were some things I wished I remembered...

Anyways, I don't think it effects what class you decide to put yourself in at all. Just a notifier of where UM thinks you are.

Uhh, I don't remember any chem at all, lol. It's all multiple choice right? ...and do we all have to take a chem class? I don't think so.

maguo1, its all very basic chem. very very basic. like unit conversions, balancing equations, and simple stoich.

chickenlord, its all multiple choice, and you definitley do not have to take a chem class at all. its for people who are interested in pursuing chemistry in college, to tell you approximately which class you should place into. most people end up not taking chemistry. there were about.. 25 kids in my little orientation group when we were backpacking courses. only 5 or 6 of us were interested in taking chem in the fall. yeah.

Hmmm, Ill tkae it anyways even thought Ill be studying poly sci. ....They at least give us the periodic table right?

Did anyone think they should've let you use a calculator? It seemed to me like they make you waste time doing calculations. I tried estimating but there of course were always 2 answers that were in the range of error. I mean, if you know how to do the problem, why should they mark you down because they didn't give you a calculator to do things like molar conversions, etc.

Eh other than that it was easy. Mostly basic chem, a little AP. A little basic Acid-base (strong acid knowledge) and rate law (Rate=k[A]**). But that was it.
