How hard is the Math IIC?

How hard is the math IIC exam?

Thanks

The material is more advanced han SATI Math or MathIC. But if you have taken pre-calc, the problems are relatively easy. Since no one problem can require very much work, they are usually simpler versions of what you would expect on a pre-calc test. The hard part about the test is timing, because there are 50 questions in an hour. But the scale is pretty lenient. You only need a raw score or 43 out of 50 to get an 800.

Yea, I was surprised to find that 800's on Math IIc are only at 92 percentile. That means a heck of a lot of people get 800's, which means it shouldn't be too hard.

Or else that everyone who takes it is a math genius. ;)

"Or else that everyone who takes it is a math genius. "

One possibility.

I think the 800 dropped to 90th percentile, because that is what it said for mine this year.

lol, the math 2C is ez man u can miss SIX, SIX questions and still get an 800

I've posted this before, but I want to warn that outside of this forum most people don't find that IIC all that easy. S got a 680 (May) after a strong pre-calc course (no prep for the test) and his roommate got 710 after honors pre-calc. Niece took college calc as a junior and got 570 on the IIC. The test isn't a piece of cake for everyone like this forum would lead you to believe. These are all kids with high math grades at top schools and high SAT I math scores.

I suppose so. I've got no say in it cuz I'm, of course, a math geek.

I've seen so many threads like this it's ridiculous. There's nothing wrong with asking a question, but please, go through the archives first.

Although I haven't taken it yet, the IIc seems really straightforward. Most of the problems can be solved with basic definitions (trig. identities, etc.) as opposed to a lot of reasoning (like SAT I Math). The most "abstract" problem I have ever seen on a practice test was something like the following:

*Two planes are parallel to each other and tangent to a sphere (between them). What is formed by the set of points equidistant from each plane inside the circle?

Answer: a circle*

However, I have heard there are some probability / stats. problems also on it. Does anyone know more about this?

There's usually 1 or 2 probability problems on it, usually dealing with combinations. In any case, it's really basic, so I wouldn't worry about it.

The hardest non-language SAT II is (regarded by most to be) Physics.

Very few people take SAT II physics, but most of those who take get good scores, hence low percentage for 800.

physics is the hardest o.o (well i got 680 for it.. :/ theres just so lil time, and i definitely didnt noe everything in it neways) yeh, and i agree with momofwild child, its not tht at all THT easy for the average 2c takers... its true tht the percentile is 90-92... but the test in itself is kind of self selective.. only the better math students take it (or they wouldve taken 1c) and i mean, theres definitely lots of ppl with capabilities of scoring 800 on it, thus making a low percentile. just my 2 cents tho..

^^I defintely agree, and the phenomenon gets amplified with SATII Physics.

My advice: Take Physics only if you know you will ace it. Take IIC if you are comfortable with it.

I have taken both....trust me.

I beg to differ. SAT II Chem is the hardest thing. SAT II Physics is just like the math IIc, straight forward with basic formulas. Chem one is a lot more memorization, and diverse format sometimes confuses people, too.

Yeah, Chem's I/II/CE format can be difficult.

It was so much harder than the AP Physics C E&M test. I got a 5 on that but a 500 on the Math IIC.

It's pretty easy if u've taken pre-calc, i got an 800 no problem. pretty generous curve cause if I remeber correctly, the top 10% of my test (including myself) got 800s.

physics wasn't too bad either, as I got a 780. if I can, u can

Chem is harder???????

Man, I am going to take Chem....I registered 10 minutes ago!

maths is not all that difficult. jsu do ur preb with barrons and sparknotes.....u'll be fine. Trust me.
