How hard is to be accepted as a transfer student?

anyone has some information about how hard is to transfer to UC Berkeley if you start college at CC or CSU? What stats would be needed to be accepted? It's a long story, but I'm guessing my D will have to start at a CSU or CC and then try to transfer. Thanks a lot!

One thing that I do know is that is is easier to transfer from a CC rather than from a CSU.

It may be true, but it will not be in the best interest of that prospective student. My fundamental rationale is that if you cannot do well at a state university, you will not do well at UC Berkeley. My recommendation is to go to a state school anyway and to try really hard.

It makes no sense for an individual to get a half-decent GPA community college and then flounder at UCB in the 2nd year, trying to grasp in a dark room.

Your daughter will most likely not get into a high ranking UC if she goes to a CSU.

CSU transfers have a less than 10% acceptance rate. CC transfers have a 30% acceptance rate.

anon2528462, that’s exactly what I heard. Going to a CC is a better choice for transfering later on. D likes UC Berkeley. However, we need to know if she’ll be accepted to any of the UC for this fall. D attends a competitive private HS, gpa 3.45, wgpa 4.83, took all AP allowed in her HS, a lot of community service, leadership, languages, etc., at this point, we’re preparing for the worse case scenario. I don’t feel that comfortble with a CC, but it maybe the best option to transfer to a UC.

How is it even possible to have a UWGPA of 3.45 and a WGPA of 4.83?

Anyway, depending on her intended field of study, CC’s transfer rates vary greatly. For biological sciences, the CC transfer acceptance rate is around 50%. That’s very generous, considering 1 in 2 applicants get accepted. Furthermore, she won’t have to go through the lower-division courses at Berkeley.

You welcome.

My rationale is not based on how to get in, but on how to do well. I might get Cornell Guaranteed Transfer and Cornell says that people who are offered GT can attend any colleges, including CC. If offered GT, I am picking a public state school.

If Berkeley, or another UC, is the ultimate goal, and that is the most important consideration, definitely CC is the better route.

MomofaTeen i suggest you check the UC Transfers thread here. UC Transfers - College Confidential Forums I also have A LOT of information about transfering to uc berkeley. Please ask the question on there and I will answer them. Thanks.
