How hard is to go from DGS to engineering?

Is it worth going to u of i if you go to DGS and want to transfer into engineering? What if you don't get in?

I know you need a 3.8-4.0 gpa to get in, does that mean you can take any classes or they must be engineering? If you really want to get in engineering, can you do it?

If you don’t get into any engineering, then you either will need to find a new major at UIUC or go to another school where you can get into their engineering program. However, if you REALLY want to be in engineering bad enough, transferring in is definitely possible. However, as you said, you will need a high GPA.

You don’t need to take engineering classes for that though. You can take mostly GenEds, but you definitely need to take some of the required physics and math courses so they can see if you have a shot at succeeding in engineering.

Good luck!

Is it hard to get a 3.8-4.0 gpa there?

It isn’t easy but it is possible if you choose your gen eds wisely and/or work very hard.

What gen ed classes should I take, i already took sociology, us history, humanities, both english 1 and 2

By the end of your freshman year you will need to have credit for Calc I, Calc II, Physics 211, Chem 102/103. It’s not just the Gen Eds. You basically need to take the classes that a student already in the engineering program that you want to transfer into would have taken his/her first year. In that respect, getting a high gpa is doable, but tough. I’m not sure you’re correct about needing a 3.8 or above. It depends on the program. You need to talk to an advisor in DGS about this to get a definitive answer. Do not make a decision based solely on the opinions that you get here.

I am a transfer bro. I will have those credits and even calf 3 organic chem and more stuff by sophomore year. So ill prolly be transferring to engineering after doing one year in dgs

Oh I see Withcy. Ok, well good luck. Again, I’d try to get in touch with a DGS advisor, and ask them, if possible. You’d be explaining your situation to someone who deals with those types of questions all the time. As for specific Gen Eds, what U of I gen eds are your transfer courses being applied against? That will be one of the main pieces of information a DGS advisor will need in order to properly advise you.

College of liberal arts and sciences/ college of engineering dual degree program. Look it up. (2x3 combined plan program)
