How hard is it to get into University of Texas Austin?

I have a quick question, please do not judge, this is extremely hard for me to admit.I don't think I should say what school I go to,but I go to an IB school.I'm an AP student,I just checked my class rank(which I hear UT looks at instead of GPA) & let's just say i'm not in the top 8%,and considering the top 10% of my class is made up of IB students(I know all of them),I won't be able to raise my rank up can you just give me any advice?I emailed my counselor today & she told me what my cumulative GPA would be,but couldn't necessarily tell me what my rank is because my class is so big,and things change with class size you know.My GPA is horrible,my cumulative GPA will be horrible(Don't ask,I won't tell,it hurt when I saw it).Advice?

Here's another thing,I went to,some site my dad told me about.I know about Collegeboard because I took AP exams and they sent my results. But he said princeton reviews, and they do this thing where they find your "match" "safety" and "Good" university's for your GPA,your class rank, and they even get specific with co-ed or same sex,or dorm, majors etc. They had University of Texas as a match, but I've been searching Q's on this site, and my GPA is no where where it should be neither is my rank,I don't understand, and then I did the 'find your match" on collegeboard and it said University of Texas as one of my matches,I am confused.Any advice?Does it perhaps depend on what you want to major in?
Because I've heard McCombs is extremely competitive but that isn't where I want to go just an example.Advice?

I'm sorry if this is all messy,I have no one I can ask about this.My parents tell me one thing,my sisters another, none of my friends went to college.

You have a chance to get in, I wasn’t top 10 (although very close to it) when I applied and got in.

Hell, I know a guy no where near the top 10% who had decent SAT scores and not only got into UT, but got into Plan II honors. Another friend of mine got off the waitlist and wasn’t close to being top 10% either/didn’t have an amazing SAT score.

If that doesn’t work out, you can hope to get CAP’d (Go to a UT satellite school for a year, maintain a 3.2 GPA and then get a guaranteed transfer to UT), which a lot of people I know who weren’t in the top 10 (but took AP’s) ended up doing.

What are your SAT/ACT scores btw? If they are pretty good (2100+) I’d say that as long as your GPA/rank wasn’t too bad, you’d have a decent shot to at least get into one of the less competitive colleges.

Actually,i’m going to be a junior this year,I did take the PSAT my sophomore year,I forgot what I got, but…I cannot remember, but it might be in my Collegeboard account.I am going to take the SAT this year in case improvement is needed
I keep hearing about PlanII which I actually do not know what it is haha.
I live in the Dallas area, and UT Dallas is obviously here.
What happens if someone gets waitlisted?

Well since you are going to be a junior, make sure that you do your best. I started off pretty slow in highschool, but picked up in the latter years, which I’m sure helped a lot.

You have to take the SAT or the ACT, UT requires it. Since you say your rank isn’t too hot, I’d make sure to study for those tests. Also, make sure to try both of them (get practice books), because people tend to score better on one than the other (ACT was way easier for me).

Plan II is an extremely selective honors program. I kind of wished I had applied for it, but it’s not that big of a deal.

If someone gets waitlisted you really just have to wait and hope that a spot opens up for you. The wait can be quite long: The friend I mentioned found out he got into UT in late April/early May. Some people don’t want to wait for the waitlist, and just end up going to another school that accepted them.
