How hard it it for an international student to get an internship?

So, i have been looking for internships and almost all of the requires me to be either a us citizen or to have the unrestricted right to work in the U.S. As i am a f1 student i guess i dont qualify right? Now, am i just looking at the wrong places or is it supposed to be this hard to get an internship?

You’ll have a much harder time than your American classmates to get an internship in a formal internship program that’s being advertised as such. But you should still be able to arrange an internship through your own contacts. For example, one of my international friends in college arranged an internship at the company of her roommate’s mother.

A lot of international students who want to remain in the US end up spending summers on-campus, which that doesn’t eat into their OPT time. (If you want to work in the US after college, there’s a good argument to be made for preserving most of your OPT eligibility until after graduation.) Some colleges have interesting summer opportunities, whether through formal programs/jobs or self-arranged internships.

Hard but not impossible.

The career center and international students office at your own university would be the best place to start. They will be able to tell you where students from your university have found internships in the past few years.

Maybe you just need all the necessary papers and present them to your prospects  It might be hard but again not impossible. Have you tried contacting organizations which helps international students?
