How hard to transfer from a CSU to a top tier school in CA?

I am going to SDSU fall 2006.. and lets say for 2 years i bust my butt and i work really hard and get a good GPA like 3.8 or above,

how hard would it be to transfer to USC?
UC Berkeley?

its just because since i'm doing accounting i want to be recruited by the big firms, n those schools seem more likely

what else do they look at or require?

It's hard. I'd go to a ccc, get a 4.0 and transfer to UCB, USC, UCLA or anywhere you want to go...plus it's a lot cheeper. Your chances to get out of SD and into a UC is not good. Go to Mira Costa.

i change my mind about berkeley.. i understand its a state school so blah blah
now, what about USC?

if i get a gpa > 3.6 at SDSU for the first two years, would it be hard still to transfer into USC Marshall?

still relatively competitive...

i really do not get it...if you're intent is to transfer to a four year...why are you bothering to go to a state school when you can maximize your chances and opportunities through a CC AND save thousands?

If you go to state, you'll be stuck there - trust me. Either go there for the long haul or go to a ccc and transfer anywhere you want and, as mschop said, save thousands. Other Universities want to know why you want to transfer from your four-year and you'll have to have a very good reason. You can look up the stats of how many transfered in from state. It's not a lot. The spots are reserved for ccc students. I'd think about it.

Take the advice that everyone has told you so far and go to a CC.

i know about the whole CC transfer route but i'm sorry i just dont want to go through it that way.. coming in from a diff country i just want to enjoy the college experience, studying, and the san diego area.
plus i've read up on tons of USC transfering information on this board already..
USC is a private and it doesnt have the obligation like UC's to admit CC's right?
although i did come across a site, been trying to find it again but cant, that shows a pie chart of where the students come from-
a big chunk was from CC's, and i think 15% were from CSU's
10% UC's and so on

so i'm going to try really hard to get a GPA at least 3.5.. or even better 3.7 at SDSU. And apply as a transfer to USC Marshall after 2 years.. if i dont make it?
a SDSU business (accounting) degree is not so bad in the california area, and i can still find work i guess.

I think it does not matter much to USC in that sense but it matters A WHOLE LOT if you wanna transfer to the UC system because as many have mentioned that the UCs put straight priority for CC students.

Well, I wonder why you don't intend (or not likely) to attend a California Comnunity College (CCC)? Is it because of the low reputation? But don't you think that staying in CCC can save thousands!!!! Also note that San Diego has many community colleges, too!

Maybe you should rethink about your options!

your chance at usc is extremely low. 3.8 at sdsu is like 2.8 at usc and 1.8 at ucb.

If you have a 3.8 GPA after 2 years, you're definitely in the running for usc transfer. Just make sure all your SDSU courses are transferrable to usc.

Sure usc is under no obligation to admit transfers from csu/ccc, but USC admits loads of transfer students each year. Lots of them are in engineering, but there are lots of other majors too. Dunno about business.

If you're considering transferring to usc go ahead and contact the admissions office and they'll tell you what you should do if you want to get in after 1/2 years at sdsu or a community college.
