Hi ! I’m currently enrolled in a state university in Florida and plan to transfer to csulb in Spring 2020 with 60 units(since CSULB doesn’t accept lower-division transfers). How hard it is for an out of state applicant to be admitted ? Do I need to complete all of my prerequesites before transferring for my major and gen eds since I don’t have the same classes in Florida as in California ? How does it work ?
Local and in-state applicants get priority. You need to complete at the minimum the Golden four GE’s Spring by end of the summer prior to the spring admission term plus the required major pre-requisites by Fall 2019.
The Golden four:
The four competency areas are Oral Communication, Written Communication, Critical Thinking, and Mathmatics/Quantitative Reasoning.
You can use assist.org to help match the courses required for transfer. Use Long Beach city college as your CC and CSULB as your transfer target. It should list the courses needed for transfer.
Just be aware you will pay OOS fees with no financial aid so around $40K/ year.
Yes but how does it work if some classes are not available at my school ? I mean in Florida,we don’t have assist or anything like that.Besides that,I’m considered International,so not really out of state.
I know you do not have assist.org but you can look up the list of required courses and try to match them to your Florida courses. You could also contact CSULB and ask if the could review your Florida transcript before applying. If you are not a California resident, you still pay OOS rates.
I heard they can accept you even though you don’t have all the prerequesites and gen eds completed since some classes don’t exist at my school.
Yes, that may be the case. I would contact admissions and find out for sure what they expect from an OOS transfer.
I’ll call when I’ll have some time. I just expected to have a similar story available here but it seems most transfers are from instate. Thank you.
have you called? I am also from florida wanting to transfer to csulb for spring 2020 and trying to figure everything out since i can’t take the classes required in florida.
@Gumbymom my dad lives in california but i live in florida so do you know if i transfer to csulb will i still have to pay out of state tuition?
@han751 see my PM. It is considered rude to hijack another posters thread. If you have questions, you need to start your own thread.
