How hard would it be for me to be accepted into the Brown/RISD dual program?

I have a 4.5 GPA and a 2240 SAT score (770 w 740cr 730 m) - I might be retaking it but idk if I d do as well…
I go to a private (prestigious) all girls catholic school
I don t have many EC s but I am in orchestra (assistant concert master) Blueprint-literary&art magazine (assistant editor–>next in line for editor in chief), Asian cultural society
I’ve been drawing/painting for many years
I’ m in honors studio art (a selective art program in my school, on the track for AP studio art next year)
Because of my decision to take this studio arts course this year, I had to take AP Physics online (via John Hopkins CTY) because of schedule conflict – which was a great challenge for me
I’m in High honors classes & APUSH in school (My school offers at most 3 AP classes for juniors) I am taking AP Physics and AP Chinese outside of school
planning to take a few SAT subject tests and AP exams

It would be a dream for me to attend Brown University, and simultaneously taking classes at RISD would be a dream come true for me, since I have a passion for art, but academics are also important to me and I hope to have a liberal arts education

Unfortunately, the Brown-RISD Dual Degree Program only accepted 3 percent of last year’s 512 applicants, but you don’t have to be in the dual degree program to take classes at RISD. Any Brown undergrad is free to take classes at RISD and vice versa.

Best of luck!

The Brown-RISD Dual Degree Program is one of the most competitive programs in the country, with a 3% acceptance rate, as @arwarw notes. You have to apply independently to both Brown and RISD (and submit the joint program supplement along with your application to each school), and meet the rigorous admission requirements at each school; but admission to both by no means guarantees admission into the program. The most successful candidates have been students who clearly were able to link their artistic and academic interests. Here’s one good example:

Why do you want to combine studies at Brown with RISD, and how would you use your combined background? This is an important question to ponder. It sounds like you have the basic academic qualifications for Brown, though that by no means guarantees admission; I’m less clear that your art is at the RISD level. Have you been doing portfolio level work? RISD admissions requires submission of a portfolio, so you may want to look at their website and get some idea as to whether your work is competitive. Putting together a high quality portfolio is very labor intensive, so it’s not something to leave to the last minute.

Good luck!
