How hard would it be to transfer from a state school to somewhere like UCLA or Carnegie Mellon?

Just graduated high school, going to go to a state school next year and really want to transfer to UCLA because well it’s UCLA and it’s one of the rather few colleges that offers the degree I want. I plan on working hard in university next year. I don’t know what else to say. I was pretty lazy in high school and don’t have anything noteworthy to make me stand out. But I’m hoping that next year will be a fresh beginning and I’ll get a chance to redeem myself. What will they be expecting from me as a transfer student in order for me to get accepted?

ACT: 31
SAT: 2050
Race: Asian (if that’ll work against me)
And the school I’m going to is on the east coast.

You need 60 semester or 90 quarter units which usually means a Junior level transfer. Are you in- state California resident? If so, why don’t you go to a CCC and use TAP to transfer. If you are coming from OOS, not all classes may transfer so you need to check with a transfer advisor at each school to see which courses will map correctly for the UCLA course requirements prior to transfer.

I agree with Gumbymom, if you rally want UCLA the best route is CCC and transfer.

If you can’t do some basic research on what the requirements are to transfer to UCLA, you’re probably not going to get in.
