How heavily are SAT scores typically weighed for transfer applicants?

Are they as important as they were when applying for freshman year or less so?

Depends where you are applying. Some schools dont even require it, but it is normally less important than it was when you applied as a freshman. They look at your college record as the most important factor in admission, but your SAT/ High school/ Work Experience/ EC also plays a major part ( or so they say)

It also depends on how many college credits you have. I am transferring as a junior with an Associate’s Degree and applied to NYU, Cornell, U of Maryland- College Park and SUNY Stony Brook and did not have to send my SAT scores to ANY of those schools. My college experience and what I accomplished there was enough. There’s a good chance your SATs won’t be needed if you have enough time in college already.

I thought test scores were required by NYU?

Depends on the school you’re applying to: some may not even require it; some may not count it much; some very selective schools may still put some weight in it, particularly as a check on your college gpa if your current school isn’t a well known quantity.

Depends on when you apply: If you apply as a soph transfer, it will usually count more than as a jr transfer.

I applied to NYU Steinhardt and all the paperwork said I did need to send the SATs but when I went to a college fair at the community college I was transferring from the NYU rep there said it really isn’t needed. I listened to him, didn’t send it and I got in so I guess he was right! I did have to send my HS transcript, though.
