How heavy is the workload for religious studies/asian american studies class?

How much homework/ reading does these studies class take up? Rate my professor suggest it’s an easy going class with an 3.0 easiness grade but do students need to read a lot? Do you suggest these classes for a freshmen?

And How much homework/test/studying does workload chem have? I feel like it’s just an easy course to brush up on your skills but I’m worried it’ll have lots of studying and homework.

Any advice would be nice, thanks

You should specify what class/professor. I’ve heard that Asian American Studies classes can be a crapton of work, but wouldn’t know personally.

Religious studies courses in general are easy to me. But this depends even more on the professor/class. I came from a parochial school and whipped through an upper div (100+) religious studies course last year as a freshman with a relatively difficult professor.

Workload chem is not that hard, but if you have the online course then you will be doing lots of online homework to make up for the fact that you don’t have to meet for class. I took it because I couldn’t get into normal chem (everything was full), but it didn’t do anything to brush up my skills, so if you’re taking it for the same reason then I suggest dropping it. If not, then I never even tried and easily got through it. I mean it is P/NP. All you need is a C-, its the same as an A in workload chem and doesn’t factor into your gpa.

I have Hamamoto for Asian American studies and Watenpaugh for Religious. Do you know anything about them?

And dang, so workload chem didn’t even help you out or prepare you for the upcoming chem courses? :/

I don’t know which ASA class you’re taking, but I had ASA 4 last quarter with Maira. The coursework consisted of 2 weekly reflection blogs on readings, 1 term paper, a few written responses, and 1 essay midterm. Some of the readings were confusing and long while others were short and interesting, but the professor was really accepting of students’ perspectives and the TA was pretty helpful during discussion. Not too bad, especially since I felt my grade was at risk in the beginning and then ended up with a solid A.

Sorry I’m so ambiguous, it’s
Cont Issues Asian Am - ASA 002 - A02

and

Fundamentalism - RST 001E - A04

Have you checked out ratemyprofessor.com? The grade for ASA 2 with Hanamoto is supposedly 7-8 page research paper, 1 midterm, and final (each 1/3 of the total grade). From Watenpaugh’s ratings, it looks like there is more coursework to do. Both have mandatory lectures, and probably don’t have powerpoint or maybe even podcasted lectures. They both seem interesting, though.

should I only take one of this for my fall quarter or do you think I’ll be able to handle both? kind of freaking out here since i have to write so much…
