I want to know if I should even bother trying to switch majors haha.

According to last year, the average gpa of those accepted was 3.3, so anything higher should give you a good shot. At the same time, getting in kind of depends on everyone else applying, so it’s hard to say. What’s keeping you from trying? The lady at the info session I went to said they typically have more space than applicants and applying to switch is inputting a few lines and clicking a button.

Well I’m deciding between Psychology (B.S.) and Human Biology. I’m okay with the bio, chem and (mostly) math classes, but I don’t know if I could keep my GPA up if I do end up taking the physics sequence. I don’t want to take physics and end up tanking my GPA and/or wasting time, since physics isn’t required for psych majors.

Really O_O?
I went to a info session this fall and they told me that there are very limited space because there are more applicants than space.

Physics 1 Series is extremely easy. Did not attend four-fifths of the lectures throughout the whole series and still ended up with A+'s. Since the exceptional admission is fairly new, last year, there were more spaces than qualified applicants. Last year, my friend did not finish Physics series, BILD 2, Chem 6C, Chem 7L and got in, albeit her GPA was a 3.97 or something. This year, there are actually more applicants as more people are deciding to switch to biology. So it will be a little tougher to get into this year. Best advice is if you really want to switch, then take the Physics series. Maintain good grades and you’ll earn a spot. Don’t have the mentality that you won’t get in, but rather use advantageously as a motivating factor to earn top marks.

I went to the info session last fall, so that might have been the difference. xD Last year was only the second year the exceptional admission system was implemented, so that could explain why they took so many underqualified people (and pretty much anyone who qualified). If you aren’t confident about your gpa the process is kind of like a shot in the dark :\

I applied to the process this winter ^-^ I’m a psych b.s. major now and trying to double major! Physics isn’t as bad as it seems, considering the 1 series is more conceptual than anything. I still don’t understand a thing from the first 2 quarters, but the curves are extremely generous. It might tank your gpa in the short term, but in the long term it’ll survive.

At worst, you don’t get into the major but you’ve taken the prereqs needed to take the UD bio classes you like. Of course, look at whether or not you can still graduate in time, why you want to change majors, all those issues that are holding you back.
