How high of a PSAT score do you need to be a finalist?

I think the title speaks for itself

Once your a semifinalist, your PSAT doesn't matter. You just need to do good on your SAT (to show the PSAT wasn't a fluke).

Semifinalist qualification depends on state, and ranges from 202 to 222

oh sweet, I guess I just have to wait for my April SAT results

thanks for the quick reply

Plus your essays (I think?), awards, activities, and grades... it isn't just about your SAT score.

true, but the SAT is most important in this case; either way, 15/16 semifinalists make the next cut, so its not all that hard

It could be because 1/16 semifinalists are extremely lazy and have crappy grades, courses, activities, and/or essays. Scoring high enough on the PSAT is already an indication of a good SAT score; why would they judge students on the same criteria twice? I realize that there is a difference between state-wide and nation-wide qualification, but it's not like all the semifinalists from under-performing states who are semifinalists with a 200 on the PSAT won't be finalists and all the semifinalists from Jersey, Cali, etc will automatically be finalists.

they just don't want people who get 217 and 1630 SAT by some sort of a guessing fluke etc...it would be theoretically possible to score much better than you deserve
