We went to a CMC presentation and it made the school seem pretty homogenous. I fit the stereotype of a poli-sci kid who wants to be really successful, but I think I might want somewhere more diverse. Does anyone know? Is it an interesting edgy place or does it seem like a bunch of white kids who want money?

I'm an Indian who wants nothing to do with poli-sci (physics major) that's going there next year! So there's at least ONE non-stereotypical person there ;)
Actually, when I visited there (my bro goes there), it seemed like it was actually pretty diverse, not as much as UC's, but significantly more than I expected.

What exactly do you mean by diverse? You mention race/ethnicity and goals at the same time, so it could go either way. Ethnically, the stuff is on the website. We're a bunch of honkies, but this is OK. I find that most of my friends are white and yet not very similar.

Goal-wise: Erm..I haven't found it to be the case that everyone wants to make money. Poli sci and success in terms of high salaries don't really go together, I hate to tell you. But plenty of people do consulting/i-banking. Lots do political work for think tanks or congresscritters or city governments. One of my best friends that just graduated is teaching elementary school. I hope to go to law school. I find that no matter what someone wants to do in life, they're there because they are motivated and enjoy work and play at CMC. There's not a lot of media studies majors or anything, but <insert consortium="" rant="" here="">, either you slept during the presentation or the presenters did ,because they ought to be telling you about the range of people who are claremonsters. You'll be able to find any sort of walking college cliche you want to on campus. I wouldn't like CMC nearly as much if it wasn't for my friends at the other four.</insert>

Ok, thanks, the presenter was this old white man who was ranting about liberal hippies and saying no one protests at CMC, but you make it say a lot better. Thanks!

I've only been here a week but this place is definitely not homogenous. Today we were discussing opinions on issues such as marijuana, drinking age, racism, etc. and everyone's views differed. Racially, the campus is very different. On my floor, out of 8 freshmen (I don't know the upperclassmen yet), only 2 of us are caucasian. While many people do choose to do something related to gov't or econ as a major, there are a bunch of pre-med, science, math, lit, etc. majors. My RTA is even a music major! So ya, I definitely would not worry about CMC being homogenous.
