wait until you see what kind of room you have, but I think that 2 fans work better, since not very many rooms have a cross-breeze. You need one fan next to the window (but not a window one since those don't fit into princeton windows) to blow air in, and another on the other side of the room to keep it circulating. The towers are more space efficient in small dorm rooms than a 13" fan. I have a tower and a smaller desktop fan and they do a pretty good job. Don't forget about the common room if you end up with one.

edit:: bring at least one fan with you-- move-in is when you will want it. Move the fan first and plug it in to cool the room down at least a little

some students use those fans that fit inside windows to help blow hot air out of the room. Princeton is pretty humid and disgusting in september and some of october. you definitely need at least one large fan also, but it is something to discuss with roommates before moving in.

ec1234: exactly what I was thinking - during move-in is when we'll want a fan - for me and my husband!

I think we'll probably take our full-size stand-fan for during move-in, buy something locally for her after we revise the situation, and ours back home with us.

I have a three-tiered fan that works really nicely...I can direct each of the fans at different places in the room, and can change the intensity of each individual fan.
