How I Can Improve(I am a Junior)

not true.

you are doing great with your gpa and rank so far. the ecs are good but a little lacking for top schools. so you can work on those, like others have said. but overall you are doing great.

All editions of the SAT are developed using the same test specifications. Even if there are tiny differences in difficulty from test to test, a statistical process called “equating” ensures that a score for a test taken on one date or at one place is equivalent to a score for a test taken on another date or in another place. The rumors that the SAT in one month, say in October, is easier, are false.

Thanks for helping out!

what chances do I have with UCs assuming I get 2200 on the SATs?

i dont know a ton about the UCs, but 2200 is very good and since you are in state, i would say you have a good shot at all of them. maybe berkeley and UCLA would be somewhat of a reach.

Average for berkeley is a 2050/2080. The higher you score means you have a better chance in getting in.

@Castel

Not “titles” per se, but responsibility. And most of the time, a leadership position = added responsibility.

If you were a college, would you take the kid who’s been in three clubs all four years as a member? Or the kid who’s been in three clubs all four years and was president/vice president/secretary/whatever for her junior and senior year?

Obviously, the person who took the initiative to gain more responsibility and control is associated with having more potential. You’re going to pick the second kid.

You don’t have to be popular to get a leadership position (a lot of kids at my school aren’t, they did just fine). You have to step out of your comfort zone to succeed. Might as well get used to it while you’re in high school.

If you can’t get a leadership position for say, a community service club, talk to the head and see if they can put you in charge of projects. Like, have you organize weekly trips to the homeless shelter, something like that. So on your application, you can say that you organized/headed stuff.

You need something that shows that you’re capable of more.

@yanarchy:
I guess you’re right, I feel like poo now for not getting my position, haha.

It’s okay, it’s not too late.

I’m an upcoming senior :D.

Still not too late. Just get positions your senior year.

does it count if I was on Freshman Board for Indian Club? We helped organize events. Plus for Science Olympiad we organize fundraiser events. If I get even one position my senior year(every position in Science Olympiad is taken by a senior) will that add more to my application?

Yes, and yes.

thanks yanarchy

So any other views?

more ideas on how I can improve?

…bump…

Okay so far in the past month I have run for pres for S.O, tried to get any leadership position in Health Club and yes I have tried to get people to know me but as always they voted for friends.

Do you have time for a part time job?

well, I was hoping that I could have a job during the summer but during the year I have no time.

You can always suck up to the president and make leadership like selected instead of voted =] Basically you want to be as active as possible in the club.

Or you can become friends with the people inside the club who vote for their friends. Just because the clubbers have friends doesnt mean they are not open to reason.

“well, I was hoping that I could have a job during the summer but during the year I have no time.”

What do you do with your time=]

well, I have to tutor, volunteer at the library, stay active in clubs, keep my grades stable, babysit, and your regular everyday chores. Thanks for asking!:)
