How I feel in Berkeley??

I dont know how to say this. Im not that very happy in Berkeley. I always have a feeling like this is not a good school even if many people say it is and rankings show it. I just feel like im being shortchanged. Like I can be somewhere better. Maybe I have this feeling because I am a freshman. I just hate having the constant reminder of the budget problems because i feel as if Im not receiving the education i should be receiving. Plus with that, Im not sure what i want to major in. I just have so many options and im so scared of my future. I dont want to be stuck unemployed after graduation. And i want to make some money after college. Right now im considering going to a top 14 law school so this adds to my pressure to do good. However im a procrastinator and i fear i wont get the grades this semester that i should be getting. so im going to start studying for the LSAT just in case i receive a low GPA.
sorry for my sudden rush of feelings. just had to let them out and get publicly humored at over the internet. hope this wont haunt me in the future.

Trust me; I’ve corresponded with several Berkeley students who feel exactly the same, if not worse. Berkeley is a unique institution and it’s world class. However, it’s not for everyone. If you don’t like Berkeley’s environment or the students’ culture in Berkeley, you better start looking for a school to transfer to, maybe something much smaller and less cutthroat Santa Clara, Pepperdine and the like. If you’re into academics, the you may try the Claremont Colleges. And coming from Berkeley, I don’t think it’s going to be very hard for you to get accepted to a decent LAC, especially if your grades are above average.

There’s very little point in staying at Berkeley when you desdain the place and the school in particular.

You being a procrastinator has nothing to do with Berkeley. Do not blame your own shortcomings on anyone or anything. How exactly is having “so many options” a bad thing? You don’t want to be unemployed after graduation. How unique!

Happiness is largely influenced by our attitude. You seem to have a very negative attitude and blaming Berkeley for it. I’m sorry such a wonderful university isn’t good enough for you. I doubt you will ever find one.

It’s hard to tell if the issue that it’s hard to adjust to being in college, or if there are some specific things about UCB that make it a poor fit for you, and that would make it wise for you to consider a transfer. Not every college is a great fit for every student – no matter how good an attitude that student might have! Are you able to pinpoint what it is about Berkeley that bothers you (beyond just a general feeling that it’s not as good as it’s supposed to be)? Is it possible that you would be more comfortable at a smaller school with smaller classes, even it the school didn’t have the same national reputation as Berkeley? In any case, work hard on having good grades even though you aren’t very happy right now, as this will keep your options open.
