How i went from an 18 to a 31 in ONE year.

so mc3, u r saying that if u r doing the first practice test for english part, and u got some problems wrong, u would study the problems and figure out why u got them wrong, and then do them again and again until u got them all correct? and then you start on your second practice test, and do the same like u did for the first practice test?

and for the reading part, u only read the passages in the red ACT book, or in other 11 practice tests too? i think it s hard for me to improve my reading score, because i couldn’t concentrate on reading those passages, and it takes a long time to find the answers in the passage…sighh

…Cindy here’s a little tip for raising your English score. Whenever you’re typing on the internet cut out all the "u"s and "r"s and try to use proper grammar. Whenever you feel unsure grammatically about what you’re typing just confirm it in a grammar book and that way you’ll gain a real feel to English. I used this approach and I raised my English score from a 25 to a 36 in half a year.

to dragonforce, do you mean english part or reading part?

I think he means the english…hence, grammar :)

mc3, that’s amazing.

i tried your reading strategies by the way, and i got a 30 instead of a 21!

what about reading & science? those are the toughest

i’m confused… how did you use the BB to study for the ACT?

So…did this guy vanish? lol

i went from 25 to 33 in two years
i think ive taken it… 4 times.
and i used the similar method that you used…:)

What do you do when your scores for the reading are like waves… up and down and unpredictable? I’m studying in a similar, though less rigorous way, as mc3 and I’m really getting frustrated with the different scores. Similar with the science.
For Science, based on Princeton Review tips in the book, I’d say that if the passage is not “fighting scientists”, then don’t read it and just look at graphs. But if the question seems to reference something else, then look at the writing.
That’s what I do… but what’s a way to improve on time in Reading and Science???

this thread is awesome

Hey seeing how this thread is being re-ignited, let me tell you some tips for reading.

Most people who have low reading scores, say they are slow readers and cant comprehehnd. Welll try this strategy for you guys and see if it works. Last october act i got a 36 in reading for a composite of 33.

Here is what I did for reading.

During the real test i put my pencil down and then i pulled the book really close to my face. Then i started to read, a little faster than I normally read, but not much.

Then i realized how interesting the passages are if you comprehend them correctly.

So once i was done with the passage, I went to the questions, and to my amazement, i could answer almost every single one. The questions that required line numbers, I only had to glance at the line numbers, becasue I naturally remembered what was going on at that point becuase i found the passages so interesting. If you dont find them intersting, prentend that it is you who writes this passage in the future. that will get you interested.

Using this method i had about 2 minutes left to spare and eveyrthing was comprehended well. Guys try this and tell me what you think!

What did you make in the other sections when you took it in october?

Bump…
