How important are college essays and internships?

So i’m applying to Cornell ED (most probably). I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA, 2330 SAT (800M, 780W and 750R), going to sit the SAT 2 in October, pretty standard extra curricula but i have been doing them for a long time and have leadership positions in most of them (i’m not gonna bother going into the details). I’m also in about the top 15/150 students. Also, i’ve done 3 internships to do with my major. I realize that my profile isn’t anything special so i wanted to know how having amazing essays will affect my chances. Will having excellent essays increase my chances of getting in?

That’s my first question and my second question is how does 3 internships weigh up against 1 internship? Will doing 3 be better than just 1? Now i know that its what you do at the internship rather than how many, but just for the sake of it, say two candidates, one having done 3 and the other 1, have gained knowledge in their majors, and have equal recommendations. But obviously, since one has done 3, he has gained more knowledge and more experience than the other. So will that make much of a difference?

Thanks a lot

Excellent essays can make a huge difference. 3 internships versus 1 internship is not really that important in my opinion unless you were doing something amazing in each internship. And your logic isn’t necessarily correct about more experience. Overall, though, I don’t really think you should be concerned with this. You did 3 internships. Good for you. Now write great essays, and you have a shot.

Alright thanks a lot
