How important are ECs for state schools?

OK, I'm not looking to go to any Ivies or private schools. If I have good enough grades and SAT/ACT scores, can I get into one of my state schools with few extracurriculars?

I have never been involved in sports, band, ect. I just help out weekly at my church as a sunday school assistant, and have done various other volunteer work throughout high school.

The honors college at the University I want to attend has these stats:
SAT: 1350
ACT: 30
GPA: 4.08

My Stats:
SAT: 1440/2150
ACT: 30
GPA: 4.27

Will I get in simply because I'm above average? or do extracurriculars really matter?

On a whole, state schools have more numbers based admissions but for the honors college part of it, they might be more inclined to look at ECs. Try looking at the page for the honors college you’re interested in. I know on the one I am, they say they also take into consideration ECs, leadership, and service.

It also depends on the honors college. At a place like Penn State’s Schreyer Honors College which is like the #1 honors college in the country, then they probably do a more ivy league type holistic admission process rather than just numbers.
