How important are EC's to lower tier UC's

I have good grades, I'm taking 4 AP Classes next year as a Junior. (Which is a lot considering my school only offers 11 AP Courses) My UC GPA is a 4.17 right now, (3.67 UW) it should go up even more with the 4 AP's next year (I am taking 1 AP this year as a Sophomore, and 2 honors classes). I don't really have any EC's, I'm going to join NHS next year and do some community service, but that is about it.

How important is an EC to UC Riverside and UC Santa Cruz? Is it necessary for me to have them to get accepted into these schools?

For UCR, see if you qualify for this program: <a href=“New Students | Apply | Undergraduate Admissions | UC Riverside”>http://admissions.ucr.edu/whyucr/ourguarantee</a> . If so, sign up for it during June 16-July 31, 2014 to get automatic admission (you still need to include UCR in your regular UC application).

It is saying this is for juniors, I am currently a sophomore, can I still sign up for this?

For this UCR program, you are supposed to sign up just as you finish your junior year. So keep doing well in school, and get a good enough SAT or ACT score to qualify to sign up for the program just as you finish your junior year.
