how important are essays? merit vs eloquency (if thats a word.. you know what i mean)

anyway, the point is, do UCs care about HOW you write? like, how eloquent you are and stuff.. theres lots of conflicting opinions, but whats the fact?

basically, do they care if you write a good essay? or do they only care about what you write ABOUT?

for example, you write about how you have only one parent and 5 brothers and they all have cancer and stuff, and you have to take care of everyone and contribute towards the family income......... is that what theyre looking for?

(btw, that example is extremely exaggerated)

ps, do different ucs have different policies??

I think UCLA and the other UCs probably pay more attention to what you write about, rather than how you write it... because if they cared about your writing skill they would easily take a glance at your SAT II Writing score and the Essay subscore and judge you based on that.

I think both matter but that content is easily more important.
