How important are essays to UCD, UCI?

hi everyone! Ok so i know that UCLA and Cal use the essay as a determining factor for your acceptance, but what about UCD, UCI, UCSB, UCSC? how important is the essay for these schools? For example, I want to get into UCI; I have all the prerequisites for my major done, above minimum GPA, and 90 qtr units by end of spring. If i write a terrible personal statement...will it affect my acceptance?

If you have TAG then it doesn’t matter. Most agree that only UCLA and Cal read it.

I was just about 5 units shy of being able to sign a TAG =[, so I’m really nervous now! I’m contemplating and worrying about how much work i need to put into the personal statement

any info would greatly be appreciated

Aren’t the unit requirements for TAG the same as the unit requirements to transfer? How can you be short 5 units for TAG, but have the necessary units to transfer?

For TAG you need 30 units by the end of summer and 60 units by end of spring, to transfer you need 60 units by the end of spring.

only ucla and ucb read the essays.

^ wrong

ucla, ucb, uci &ucm check essays

ucsd,ucr,ucsc,ucd & ucsb don’t check essays

“Does the campus use the personal statement in review of transfer applicants for UC admission?”

OWNED!

^ wth. what is the point of it in the application then?

Thank you for the link B0bab0i.

Here’s the 2009 version; UCSB also looks at it.

I guess you were still more right than I was, so thanks for the info.

Thanks Everyone! the link is extremely helpful, thanks!

Does that mean I don’t have to try as hard on the essays if the schools I am applying to does not look at them?

If your ultimate goal is only D, SC, SD, or R, then no. You can just BS the whole thing in 10 minutes, make spelling errors, and they still wouldn’t read it. Other schools may read it but if you have TAG then the essay won’t matter. If you’re applying to UCLA or Cal you should probably spend more time on the essay. Keep in mind all schools read the same essay, so if you are applying to different majors for different schools make sure to cater it to a major at Cal or UCLA since they read it.

Do not forget to read the fine print.

9 While campuses vary in use of the personal statement, all use it to evaluate gaps in applicants’ educational history or in the evaluation of applicants for certain scholarships.

^ haha yeah, i read that
