How important are Extra Curricular Activities?

Hi everyone im a junior whose been super worried lately =[ I was never informed about what colleges looked at, i only thought they wanted good grades but they want to see your extracurriculars too!

I'm a female hispanic (if that helps)
so far my transcript average is a 99.49 (not including this year yet)
sat 2 world history: 750, taking math 2 & bio this year
AP: WOrld History - 5, taking eng language, bio & american history this year
EC:
Key club: grade 10- current
AMerican red cross: this year
Unicef: this year
ARISTA: this year
Did service in the biology department of my school during freshmen (is that any good?)
summer of freshmen year i went 2 a science program at queens college
volunteered at senior center 56 hrs this summer
shuld hav over 100hrs in comunity service by the end of the school year

I wanna appply to some Ivy Leagues but I'm afraid my extracurriculars arent good enough compared to what some people have!
I'm applying to one of the Brown Summer Programs then I am going to do service at a local hospital this comin summer of 2010.

Is this good enough for what the college admissioners want at Ivy Leagues or am I too late =[ ??

I’m planning on applying to some highly selective colleges too. (ex. Columbia, UPenn, Georgetow, NYU, Brown, Stanford, etc)

I don’t want to sound too negative, but pretty much all the applicants have high GPA and standarized test scores like you. That’s where extracurriculars and personal essays come in handy.

Admissions comm. wants to see that you’ve been involved in clubs/activities that you’re passionate about. And, they want to see that you’ve been part of that club/comm for a very long time.

For example, I’ve been in Amnesty International, AIDS Awareness Committee, choir and senior/marching band from grade 9 until now. In addition, I’m head of all the clubs I’m part of.

Even if you can create your own club, this would impress the admissions comm.

Good luck!
