How important are extra curriculars at UCs, especially UCSD and UCLA?

I've got a 2180 SAT, 2 800s on SAT 2s,and a 4.2 UC GPA which are all above the average for the aforementioned UCs. However, my only extracurriculars are 120 hours of public service, a summer's worth of job experience, and membership in a couple random clubs for 2 years. How badly will this weakness affect me?

Pfft. I can't imagine you being rejected from UCSD with those grades and scores. UCLA seems to be a little less predictable, but I'd still call it a strong match. Congrats and good luck!

THanks. Any more replies?

Not very. I think they spend 2 minutes per application. Really.

I know people who get into Cal and UCLA with little ECs. You should do fine. ECs come into enormous importance in the privates, when many students with very similar grades force admissions to become differential.

UCs place very little weight on ECs. I believe someone on these boards once said:

For UCs:

GPA>Test Scores>>Class Rank>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ECs.

gnrfan:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCLA: Match
UCSD: Safe Match
