i have taken only two in high school ( track and tennis ), is this too little?

That depends upon what else you have done. If you held a job and worked lots of hours, or had to help out your family at home, there are schools which will value either of those as much as a major EC. On the other hand, if you spent all your free time hanging out at the mall or video gaming...

It depends how dedicated to and passionate about them you are. Plenty of people have gotten into good schools with a few ECs that are really significant to them.

Many colleges barely if at all factor ECs into admission. This particularly is true of public universities, which mainly decide admissions based on stats and state of residence.

Northstarmom speaks the truth. Mostly LACs and top schools will factor things like ECs heavily. At most public unis, ECs might be considered for borderline applicants, at best.

Depends on the reputation of school. For top privates, it's insanely important to have good ECs and write good things (potentially and probably tying them in) on essays. However, public schools don't care as much, and neither do some particularly academically oriented LACs. Harvey Mudd is a good example here. I certainly made it into that school without any great ECs.

ECs are important. But certainly not as important as academics. Those come first. The rest is just icing.

so if i plan to go to michigan, would this be okay?
