Since sixth grade, I have gotten all 100s. My school does this thing where if you take an advanced class you have 5 extra points added, so I have 5 105s and 2 100s due to electives; however, this year I had one bad grade on a test, so I have a 95 in language. My dad is freaking out. Will this lower my chances at all? I told my dad that a 95 is still an excellent grade and my average is still 100. What do you guys think?
If I’m being honest, I can’t tell if you’re fishing for compliments or you genuinely think having a 100% average will damage your chances. Either way, here’s the short answer – it won’t. Tell your dad to chill.
Haha I think my dad and I are just overestimating the applicant pool for these schools.
My school is really easy and offers bonus points tho.
@southernboyal34 I think it is important to keep in mind that “perfect” applicants are denied admission everyday. If all the schools cared about were stats, they could fill every seat with kids with perfect grades and test scores.
But the reality is BS are building communities and looking for nice, interesting, passionate kids to fill those seats. Yes, you have to have a minimum level of scores, grades in order to do the work, but that is not what will get you admitted alone. It is much more important to spend your time on the other components of your application then worrying about a less then perfect grade.
Overall my answer is that the situation you’re describing won’t matter at all ESPECIALLY because the BS you are applying to are well aware that middle schools vary wildly in their quality and grading. As you said, your school is easy. Many kids come from schools that are rigorous. That means that grades are important but not an end all be all. AOs are very used to reading applications from a huge variety of schools.
I think I said this before but your parents need to really calm down and I hope they realize that you will not have 100’s if you attend an elite boarding school. At my sons school (elite by any standard and filled with kids he describes as geniuses) only 7 seniors have an A gpa. How will your parents handle this? I think it’s important to discuss now, before you’re in the situation. If your schools is, in fact, easy the rigor of grading at a BS may be a big shock.
Honestly, your parent’s expectations are too high. You have a perfect ssat and great application from what i can see on your chance me. Your school grades don’t matter that much because all school grades just aren’t accurate but they are still have perfect scores. I think you have a really good chance of getting in.
