How important are hooks?

Question: Does being first generation or music major (oboe) help in the app process?

Of course!!!

And even more so if you're a URM!

I only ask because SAT scores are just average and interview is tomorrow. I'm hoping it will help. How much? I don't know. Maybe they'll be blinded by personality!

Yes, large numbers of people have been known to get in mainly because of their incredible, awe-inspiring lives.

Great....Just how awe inspiring should one be?

I have this feeling that hooks can't be everything. Can you tell I'm starting to get nervous?

Don't be nervous

Ideally, awe-inspiring = black/hispanic/indian coming from a poor, first generation, broken home and still having a 1200+ SAT and 3.5 GPA.

But as long as you've overcome some major barriers in your life....that qualifies as awe-inspiring.......

playing oboe isnt a hook....lol. and considering an orchestra only has 3 oboes 4 if u count the english horn....u will be competing against a large number of talented oboe players
