Hi, I'm currently at University of Illinois @ Urbana Champaign, majoring in Electrical Engineering. I know EE here at UIUC is top notch, but I just don't feel comfortable here.

In order to transfer, GPA is the most important of all. However, I don't know if internship is at all important. This summer, I have two choices. I can either take summer school, or have an intern. Which would be a better choice?

The school I am hoping to apply are Northwestern University, Cornell, UCLA, UCBerkeley, UMich.

By the way, I will be applying for Junior standing next year. My college GPA will be around 3.75.

In my personal opinion, internships are really really helpful.

While a high GPA is great, now a days, what also stands out is work experience (it shows you know what your getting yourself into, and your ability to handle academics, hobbies, and career endeavors. major props for time management!)

Also, the essay is going to be key. Having a high GPA is whats expected. Essays, EC’s, and Work Experience is what’s going to set you apart.

(I’d even recommend an internship and take an online course, if possible).

It kind of depends. You should check whether the courses you want to take are able to transfer over. Also it depends on the type of internships. I’m not really familiar with EE but obviously if its at a well known company it will considerably improve your app more than a course or two. It shows you have real world experience and can put what you’ve learned to use especially as a prospective junior.

Wow, thanks for the quick response guys.
I think I might try take one easy course and an intern.
This company is pretty flexible with hours, so I think I can make it happen.

Anyone else looking for intern this summer?
