<p>I have a phone interview in the near future, and I was just wondering how important interviews are to Brown’s admissions process.</p>
<p>Also, would you guys say that phone interviews < face-to-face interviews? This is my first phone interview, but I’ve had a few face-to-face ones already.</p>

<p>My interviewer started of by saying the interview had very little weight in the overall decision; it just offers the adcoms a different perspective on the candidate, and a favorable report might, in cases of extreme doubt, tip the scales. It is also a great opportunity for a student to learn more about Brown.</p>
<p>I think it’s more like a way to promote Brown to the prospective students instead of evaluating the candidates, because the only thing the interviewer asked me was the ‘why Brown’ question, and the rest of the one-hour phone interview was my asking him questions about Brown and his experience there–like a real conversation–with some awkward pauses (he told me I wasn’t obliged to ask him questions but he’s really nice so I wanted talk more about Brown to him :P). I don’t know if it’s bad or not kind of drifting away from talking about ‘why I’m perfect for Brown’, but one of the Brown interviewers on CC has stated interviews carry little to no weight for the admission, so don’t worry too much.</p>

<p>You know, I really want to confide in that article, but I just feel like sometimes interviewers can really push for you. However, I’m probably wrong.</p>
<p>Overall, the interview is the least important piece of your application. (and has to be that way since there are some students who are not even interviewed.) I have (via an inside source) been told at least once that my interview was the driving force on an applicants decision by the admissions dept. Now I have done LOTs of interviews over the years, and put a fair amount of effort into not having my responses to Brown be “generic” “this is a great kid, should be admitted to Brown” on all of them. I also have done interviews outside of my area when Brown needed extra interviewers, so more than one Admit Rep knows my interviews. But I also tell students, “this interview is very unlikely to be a big factor in your admission, so let’s just relax and chat.” and I mean it, as I know my work is only a tiny factor. (and somewhat just a part of the admissions process to keep us alums connected to the school).</p>
<p>I wish it were really important, since my Brown interview was my favorite so far, but I’ve heard it does not affect admissions much. However, my interviewer told me so many great things about the school that I didn’t know about before that I’d really encourage you to go for it! Haven’t had a phone interview so I’m not sure about that, but good luck. :)</p>
<p>I have a phone interview tomorrow! I’m not really sure what to expect since this is my first phone interview for college, and I’ve only had one other college interview so far. I’ll be expecting “Why Brown” I guess, although in my last interview no such question came up, much to my surprise…hopefully all goes well!</p>
