How important are my HS qualifications?

My high school record was not impressive in the least. I decided to go through a two year program of general education studies at a community college in order to raise my GPA and save money. I'm in my first year and am receiving a 4.0. Next semester I will be taking honors classes.

My goal is to transfer to UCLA during my junior year of college. Now I've been told (and have read) that high school GPA and SAT/ACT scores are not factored into the transfer process but I've heard little testimony from transfer students about their admissions. I'm confident that I'll be able to be accepted into UCLA if my GPA remains a 4.0 throughout my two-year program. I am not currently involved in any activities through my school but I am involved in many throughout my community such as business ownership and volunteer work.

My question is this: are high school records a determinate in transfer programs? My high school GPA was around a 3.4 (my average for all four years), which is satisfactory. I took no honors or AP classes and no extracurricular (that I was intensely involved with). My high school rank was not high enough to stand out. Now, what I'm extremely worried about are my ACT scores (I never took the SAT). They are poor and when I say poor, I mean that absolutely no college would accept them.

Thanks.

A lot of people transfer into UCLA with similar stats as you. Go and look back at some of the previous accepted threads.

The more cc courses you take, the less they will care about your HS record. HS grades/ECs/etc are never determinant or tipping factors.

You may want to take the SATs again ( or if you took them 3 times, try the ACTs) because honestly it can only help.

What matters most is your college GPA, essays, teacher recommendations, and in some cases extracurricular activities.

good luck!
